The Rapture, a series of two paintings, each 195 cm2, is about the second coming of Jesus Christ as described in Chapter 24 of Matthew’s Gospel.
The first painting displays the emerald rainbow around God’s throne; the seven spirits of God; the four living creatures before His throne; and the living water running from His throne to the New Jerusalem. Around the emerald rainbow are some of the twenty-four elders who are seated around God’s throne and the thunder and lightening coming from God’s throne to the earth. Surrounding the New Jerusalem is the purple New Heaven, which is replacing the clouds of the old heaven, which is fading away as Jesus is descending with His angels, amidst the thunder and lightening, to gather the elect from the four corners of the earth. The painting shows the darkening of the sun; the lack of light coming from the moon and the falling of the heavenly bodies as described in Isaiah ‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’
The second painting is the unknown day and hour, just like it was in the day of Noah. People are eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, traveling and going about with their business as usual. You can see the elect being gathered in the four corners of the earth, with the mark of Christ on their forehead; and the beginning of the destruction of the earth by fire. | |
